Digg moving in the wrong direction

I fear for digg, really.
Today, Kevin Rose announced 5 of 50 new social features that the site is rolling out. Almost all of them are centered around replicating tools and services specific to social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace and the like. What the hell are you guys doing?
The last thing Digg needs is a shoutbox, or a photo gallery. I want digg to be about news stories. I want them to eliminate the gaming of the system which takes place there. I want them to add a damned image section. You mean to tell me it was easier to come up with a totally revamped profile page and somehow not be able to get an image section added?
Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge fan of social networks but digg isn’t Facebook. We don’t need another Facebook - the one we have is fine (it isn’t perfect but it is hands down the best social network out there).
Digg should have followed the actions of its sister-site, Pownce, and add hooks to existing social networks. Revamp the profile page letting us import in RSS feeds from our main social sites.
The funny thing is these changes seem eerily reactionary. I wonder if Kevin is sweating Streamy. Streamy actually does social the right way though - pull in data and display it from other networks, not attempting to recreate the wheel.

Dude, right now I hate the new digg. I will try to give it some time. I am more depressed than delighted.

The new Digg is a huge step backwards. They claim it is a move towards social networking, but I can’t even view a list of my friends’ recent submissions. Well, I can, but it doesn’t have digg buttons next to the headlines! Worthless!!!!

Whether or not features were added, they took some away that I miss. All in profile section, with friends submitted stories, etc. A lot’s been written in so far and I don’t mind voicing frustration over this fundamental “taking away” of what was for me the heart of Digg.
Off topic but more important to me was watching the stories that voiced ANY of these concerns (all written by loyal Diggers) get totally buried even though at last count two of them were rought 110 and 60 some diggs. Censorship and group think will patch an ailing system long enough for the first report to investors, but not long enough to give them or Digg users a return on the investment.
